Tools menu options

The options available from the Tools option on the Studio main menu let you set application options, view deployment packages, open the Log Viewer, and manage toolbox items.

Option

Description

Attach to Process

Select this option to debug a solution running in a different process. This could be another instance of Studio, Runtime, or a third-party application hosting Runtime. The other process must reside on the same machine on which the user is currently running Studio. When you select this option, the Processes window is displayed. See the MSDN Processes Dialog Box topicfor more information.

Choose Toolbox Items

Select this option to add either .NET Framework components or Static Members to the toolbox. When you select this option, the Choose Toolbox Items window is displayed. For more information, see Adding Toolbox Items.

Add-in Manager

Select this option launch the Add-In Manager window. Use this window to view a list of registered add-ins in the development environment. See the MSDN Add-In Manager dialog topic for more information.

Macros

Select this option to use the Visual Studio Macros functions. See the MSDN Visual Studio Macros topic for more information.

External Tools

Select this option to launch the External Tools window. Use this window to add external tools, such as Notepad to the Tools menu. See the MSDN External Tools Dialog Box topic for more information.

View Deployment Package

Select this option to open the View Deployment window. Use this window to view information about Runtime deployment packages. For more information, see Viewing a Deployment Package in Studio.

Log Viewer

Select this option to open the Log Viewer application for inspection of SuperTrace output.

Customize

Select this option to open the Customize window. Use this window to modify toolbars and available commands. See the MSDN Customize Dialog Box topic for more information.

Options

Select this option to open the Options window. Use this window to configure the integrated development environment. For more information on option settings, see Configuration Options.
